    Petworth: Affordable & Hip

Petworth has been making a name for itself the past few years by slowly gentrifying, while still retaining a sense of community. The diverse population along with its location and relatively affordable cost of living has been driving new developments and the revitalization of the Petworth neighborhood. Georgia Avenue acts as the “main street” with a mix of retail and high-rise residential properties lining the sidewalks. As you move West or East of Georgia Ave, the bulk of the neighborhood is a series of highly sought after, two-story rowhouses.

Petworth’s biggest advantage over most neighborhoods is its location. The Georgia Ave/Petworth Metro stop, located in the epicenter of Petworth, offers residents access to the yellow and green line. If Metro isn’t your preferred method of transportation, Petworth is also an under 15-minute drive from many other popular neighborhoods including: Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan, Georgetown, Shaw, U St, Logan Circle and NoMa. Georgia Avenue also contains a myriad of bus stops that pass directly through the heart of the city and into downtown.

A close second to location would be the wide array of retail options that Petworth has to offer. Longtime local hotspots, such as: Qualia Coffee, Petworth Citizen and Looking Glass Lounge act as anchors for the community and are known throughout the city. In addition to the established favorites, new-comers, such as Timber Pizza, Hank’s Cocktail Bar, and Homestead have made quite an impression and are already gaining notoriety around the city.

All of these amenities along with Petworth’s location are causing developers to flock, snatching up vacant lots and redevelopment sites. With multiple mixed-use developments in the pipeline and home values appreciating steadily, Petworth shows no signs of slowing down.
